Tony Estrada: John Wick: Chapter 2 (6.5/10)
There is no denying that the action sequences are absolutely stunning because of the amount of energy that is put into those sequences. Keanu Reeves is a lot of fun here in both his acting and his incredible stunt work. Anytime this film doesn’t have an action sequence happening or doesn’t have anything humorous going on, it’s actually quite dull in my point of view. I do appreciate that it’s different from the first film but there’s something about the storyline that just didn’t interest me like the original film did and the motivation for why we see our protagonist come out of retirement is rather lame. John Wick Chapter 2 is an alright feature that does entertain with its action scenes but the storyline just didn’t grab me like the original did.
Mark Krawczyk: John Wick Chapter 2 (9/10)
Keanu Reeves as the man. The only bullet time going on in John Wick Chapter 2 is the amount of time there are bullets flying through people’s heads. It takes things even further with a higher body count and more intense fights. Reeves is doing the majority of his own fight work which allows the director to keep the camera on medium and wide shots so you can see how beautifully choreographed these fight scenes are and the talent in executing them. Ruby Rose is again in another action film and I enjoyed her character. I will warn you that Wick is more of your standard action hero in this one taking more damage than most humans can handle and I wish the ending was not quite so Hollywood. It is a must see for those who miss seeing mature action movies like Die Hard. When the credits roll, it will have you saying whoa.
Daniel Rester: John Wick: Chapter 2 (8/10)
Keanu Reeves is back in kick-ass mode, giving audiences another fun physical performance in this energetic sequel. The action scenes here are excellent and are full of wide, fluid shots and well-staged choreography. I also enjoyed the strong supporting cast and that the film built further on cool ideas presented in the first film without (usually) overblowing them. The character motivation this time around is a bit weaker, and a few spots could have been trimmed down, but overall this an exciting and worthy sequel.
Average We Live Film Gradebook Score forJohn Wick Chapter 2: 7.8/10
