This year it’s “Forever Summer” with the iconic Hollywood Bowl’s 2023 summer season. From legendary musical artists to classic films projected with a live orchestra, there is something for everyone to get excited about!

As usual, the Bowl organizes its packed four-month schedule with themed events, including Classical Tuesdays and Thursdays, Weekend Spectaculars, the Sunday Sunset series, Jazz Plus, as well as incredible events like Janet Jackson taking the stage for “Together Again” Opening Night at the Bowl, and the Beach Boys headlining the stage again for the July 4th Spectacular.

Among other headliners, there’s chanteuse Jill Scott, Charlie Wilson, and the legendary Kool & the Gang (with the Village People). Sparks (with There Must Be Giants),  jazz siren Diana Krall, Café Tacvba, Ruben Blades. Carla Morrison, Maggie Rogers, icon Gladys Knight, My Morning Jacket, Herbie Hancock, 80s icon Boy George and Culture Club, 80s soft-rock staples Air Supply with Michael Bolton, Buddy Guy, and for the Fireworks Season Finale, R&B superstar Maxwell!

As always, the Bowl loves to celebrate film, and they do so in a variety of ways! Three films will be screened with a Live Orchestra performing the score, including “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2,” “2001: A Space Odyssey,” and to celebrate its 40th anniversary, “Return of the Jedi.”

Speaking of John Williams, the prolific composer returns for his annual 3-night stint “Maestro of the Movies” – this time in July.

In addition, Disney’s animated films will be celebrated with “Walt Disney Animation Studios: The Concert” in August. And what would a Bowl season be without the “Sound of Music Sing-a-long?”

Lastly, the Hollywood Bowl would not be the Bowl without several amazing classical nights. LA Philharmonic’s Gustavo Dudamel conducts a number of amazing nights, including a celebration of Mendelsohn’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” Verdi’s “Requiem,” and Prokofiev and Tchaikovsky.

Tchaikovsky, you say? Why the annual two-night Tchaikovsky Spectacular with Fireworks returns, along with nights celebrating Shostakovich and Dvorak, the “Symphonie fantastique,” Sibelius and Grieg, and a night of Elgar’s Enigma Variations and Beethoven.

Two other notable events mark this as a special year at the Bowl. Quincy Jones’ 90th Birthday Tribute: A Musical Celebration featuring special guests to be announced, and “Everybody Rise! A Sondheim Celebration,” which is sure to feature some phenomenal musical theater artists.

All in all, it seems like the Bowl has done it again – with more events to be announced in the coming months. It’s sure to be a spectacular summer season bringing together LA locals and visitors from all over the world to eat, drink, and enjoy the sounds of music that fill our hearts and souls to the rim!

Kevin is a long-time movie buff with a wide variety of tastes and fixations in the film world. He cried the moment Benji appeared onscreen in “Benji,” and it took him about four times to finally watch “The Exorcist” (at age 24) without passing out. “Star Wars: A New Hope” was the movie that changed everything and when his obsession with films and filmmaking began. A screenwriter himself (one long-ago horror script sale to New Line remains on a shelf), his first film "Two Tickets to Paradise" that he co-wrote premiered in June 2022 on Hallmark. He is currently working on another for the iconic brand.
