San Diego Comic Con 2017 Saturday Hall H Recap
Saturday at San Diego Comic Con in Hall H is always electrifying. This year was no different.
Starting off the day with a splash was DC/Warner Brothers. They started with a look into the new Steven Spielberg movie, Ready Player One. The film looks fantastic, and the enthusiasm for it was great! TJ Miller was a show stealer with his ET shirt and red sweat-shirt ready to impress Mr. Spielberg.
Following Ready Player One, we got a new exclusive clip for Blade Runner 2049. Jared Leto introduced the panel via a virtual hologram and set the tone for the film. Harrison Ford was in a particularly sassy mood when a fan asked if he plans to reboot all his films and his reply was “you bet your ass it is!” It was the best possible way to end that panel.
Of course, the DC portion of the WB panel was fantastic. We got an explosive introduction to Jason Momoa as Aquaman as he ran through the Hall H crowd, trident in hand and barefoot. Jason then introduced a series of small clips from Aquaman. Following up Aquaman, the Justice League cast including the wildly popular Gal Gadot walked through the hall and onto the stage. The team talked, and Ezra Miller was fantastically entertaining and enthusiastic for his role as the Flash in the upcoming film. We received another exclusive trailer for Justice League, which served as one of the biggest highlights from Hall H all day.
During a special edition of the Entertainment Weekly Women Who Kick Ass Panel, we were treated to one kick ass woman, and that was Charlize Theron. While I love Charlize and think she is a fantastic actress, those panels have been much more exciting when it is a panel of women instead of just one. It seemed much duller this time around. The only shining light was the clip of Atomic Blonde that was shown which also happens to be the best scene in the film.

Following that up, we were treated to the cast and creators of Stranger Things 2 with an incredible trailer for the second season. It looks just as fantastic and maybe even more spectacular than the first season. The kids were a blast, and the cast looked like they were enjoying themselves. They played the trailer twice to an extremely excited crowd.
On the heels of Stranger Things, we got to see a panel featuring the cast of Westworld. The panel was moderated by Reggie Watts who is easily the worst moderator I’ve seen at Comic Con. Despite that, the cast answered some great questions and even provided a small trailer of the upcoming season.
Finally, the panel that everyone was waiting all day for, Marvel Studios. The presentation for Marvel started with a video of Paul Rudd and Michael Pena explaining the different characters in the MCU. This was all done as a way to announce that Michelle Pfeiffer will be playing Janet Van Dyke in Ant Man and The Wasp. While the video was very entertaining and I LOVE me some Paul Rudd, it went on far too long. The short clips that followed the rather long MCU video were short yet fantastic clips of Ant Man and the Wasp.
The Captain Marvel portion of the panel was very short, but Kevin Feige revealed a few minor things about the film. He mentioned that it would take place in the 90s, Captain Marvel will be fighting the Skulls, and that Nick Fury would have both of his eyes. There was a bit of artwork shown for the film but nothing too surprising.
It didn’t take long before Kevin Feige, and Chris Hardwick brought out the cast and crew of Thor: Ragnarok. Director Taika Waititi seemed very grateful to be at Comic Con and be at the center of his panel. Various cast members including Chris Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum, Cate Blanchett, and others briefly discussed their characters before they showed Hall H some exclusive clips from the film as well as the film’s final trailer.
The Black Panther panel was easily the most spectacular and enjoyable portion of the Marvel Studios panel. Black Panther is going to be a juggernaut at the box office. The cast and director were so gracious and proud of their work. As a “surprise,” Marvel let us see the first Avengers Infinity War trailer which I am pretty sure was the same footage shown at D23 last weekend. It looks entertaining but like multiple movies jammed into one little trailer. We will reserve further judgment until we see it.
All in all, Saturday in Hall H was fun yet exhausting. Saturday is always the biggest day at San Diego Comic Con and fans seem always to love the surprises that the studios bring them every year.
