Scott Menzel’s Predictions for The 80th Annual Golden Globe Awards

After being ridiculed and attacked by almost everyone in Hollywood for about two years straight, the Golden Globes are back, and I, for one, couldn’t be more excited about their return. The organization has gone to great lengths to correct issues and revamp its business model and practices. Hollywood demanded change from the HFPA, and they made some BIG changes.

While the organization’s past isn’t without fault, most of its problems stemmed from Hollywood’s previous failure to investigate problems as they happened. Under the old regime, the HFPA was universally hated. Everyone from the studios and PR Reps to those who worked the rooms during junkets hated working with the HFPA. However, changes have been made, and from what I heard, a lot of it has already been implemented. We already know they expanded their membership, including their promise of adding black members. One must abide by strict rules and guidelines as a member. The HFPA has taken their negative criticism very seriously. They made mistakes and have acknowledged them. We must stop hating this organization and give them another chance to prove themselves. The Golden Globes are a staple of Hollywood, whether you like it or not. They have been around for 80 years and are a big part of awards season. I believe they will continue for years to come as long as they remain open to change and are willing to adapt to the new Hollywood landscape.

Now that I have gotten that out of the way, let’s get to the fun part; predicting who will win. I like to keep this relatively short and sweet because whenever someone looks at final predictions, they only really want to know who the author likes, who they think will win, and who they think might be the upset.
