A shortlist of the actors in contention for one of the most coveted roles in Hollywood, Han Solo in Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s upcoming spinoff film based on the much-loved Star Wars character, has been revealed over at Variety.
According to the site, a list of around a dozen actors has been created by executives of the most likely candidates for the role, which was originally made famous by Harrison Ford, and it includes Emory Cohen (Brooklyn, The Place Beyond the Pines), Scott Eastwood (Suicide Squad), Ansel Elgort (The Fault in Our Stars), Dave Franco (21 Jump Street), Blake Jenner (Everybody Wants Some), Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief), Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction) and Miles Teller (Whiplash).
All of the previously mentioned actors will soon meet with producer Kathleen Kennedy, Lord and Miller, and a decision will be made within the next couple of weeks.
Considering that screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan has said that the film will take place 10 years before Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, it definitely seems like the potential candidates are around the same age Solo would have been during that time, seeing as they’re all in their 20s or early 30s.
Han Solo: A Star Wars Story will be the first standalone film given to a character already established in the Star Wars universe and the second Star Wars spinoff film, following this year’s Rogue One.
The report also states that the film is set to begin filming in January 2017, but the reason that Disney and Lucasfilm are narrowing down their search so early is because Han Solo may make a cameo in Rogue One, which is currently shooting.
Lord and Miller are four for four on films that they’ve directed and will look to continue their amazing winning streak with Han Solo. Over the past few years alone, the pair has helmed such critically acclaimed box office hits as Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, 21 Jump Street, The LEGO Movie and 22 Jump Street. Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan have penned the screenplay for the film.
Han Solo will be returning to the big screen on May 25, 2018.
