It looks like Star Wars: Episode VIII may be adding The Usual Suspects and Sin City actor Benicio Del Toro to its cast.
According to a recent report from The Wrap, Lucasfilm has offered Del Toro the role of the main antagonist in the upcoming film, which will be directed by Rian Johnson (Looper).
Del Toro already plays a role in another property owned by Disney, starring in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy as The Collector.
The actor won an Oscar for his performance 2001’s Traffic, and over the years has appeared in such major films as Snatch, 21 Grams, Savages, Inherent Vice and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. He has certainly shined in the more evil and menacing roles he has played throughout his career, and if does accept the part, Episode VIII should be no different.
In the future, Del Toro can be seen in such films as Denis Villeneuve’s Sicario and Harmony Korine’s The Trap.
Star Wars: Episode VIII won’t be released until May 26, 2017, but it will begin shooting early next year. In the meantime, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One are set for December 18, 2015 and December 16, 2015 releases.
