For the week of Feb. 11, Disney has released their 1967 classic, The Jungle Book out of the vault for its Blu-ray premiere as the latest Diamond Edition. The Jungle Book has been in moratorium since 2010. In addition to The Jungle Book: Diamond Edition, The Best Man Holiday, Ender’s Game, All is Lost, The Counselor and Diana also arrive on Blu-ray this week.
Disney’s The Jungle Book is animated retelling of Rudyard Kipling’s novel of the same name. Feral child Mowgli is raised by wolves in the Indian jungle. Through his lifelong journey, he meets a host of colorful creatures including King Louie, Bagheera, Baloo and the villainous Shere Khan.
The Jungle Book: Diamond Edition is available in various versions depending on retailer. The standard editions is a Blu-ray, DVD, Digital Copy combo pack. Target’s exclusive includes a storybook and music CD. Best Buy is selling an exclusive twist drum with purchase. Walmart has a lunch bag bundled with the combo pack.
Universal Studios is releasing The Best Man Holiday this Tuesday on Blu-ray. The sequel to the 1999 film, The Best Man Holiday brings the gang back for the holidays. Taye Diggs, Terrence Howard, Regina Hall, Morris Chestnut and Nia Long star in this sequel. The Best Man Holiday is available as Blu-ray, DVD, UltraViolet combo pack.
Ender’s Game comes to Blu-ray this week from Summit Entertainment. Based on the 1985 Orson Scott Card novel of the same name, the film is set in the midst of a futuristic war in space. Gifted teenager Ender (Asa Butterfield) is sent to a military academy to prepare for an upcoming alien invasion. Ender’s Game also stars Harrison Ford, Ben Kingsley, Viola Davis, Hailee Steinfeld and Abigail Breslin. Ender’s Game comes to home media as a Blu-ray, DVD, UltraViolet combo pack. Target is offering an exclusive steelbook.
In All is Lost, Robert Redford is a man lost at sea in the Indian Ocean. Redford is the only character in All is Lost and the film is minimal on dialogue. All is Lost is J.C. Chandor’s second film after his directorial debut with Margin Call. All is Lost arrives on Blu-ray from Lionsgate as Blu-ray, UltraViolet combo pack.
Ridley Scott’s The Counselor also debut on Blu-ray this week. In The Counselor, a lawyer (Michael Fassbender) finds himself caught up in an elaborate web of drug trafficking. Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz, Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz co-star in the film, each with their own agenda. The screenplay for The Counselor was written by author Cormac McCarthy (No Country for Old Men, The Road), who is known for his signature multi-threaded plots. The Counselor comes to Blu-ray from 20th Century Fox as a Blu-ray, UltraViolet combo pack.
Wrapping up the week is Diana from Entertainment One. Diana is based on the last two years of Princess Diana’s life, culminating in the 1997 fatal crash in Paris. Naomi Watts takes on the role of the British princess while Cas Anvar portrays Dodi Fayed. The film is available as a single Blu-ray disc.
