After raking in over $150 million this summer, the success of pot comedy We’re the Millers shocked moviegoers and box office analysts. We’re the Millers looks to continue its momentum on Blu-ray, leading this week’s new releases. In addition to We’re the Millers, 2 Guns, The World’s End, Planes and The Little Mermaid 2-Movie Collection debut on Blu-ray this Tuesday.
In We’re the Millers, drug dealer David (Jason Sudeikis) recruits his dysfunctional neighbors (Jennifer Aniston, Will Poulter and Emma Roberts) to smuggle a large score of marijuana over the border. The catch is convincing the border patrol into believing they’re a wholesome family on an ordinary Fourth of July vacation. We’re the Millers also stars comedians Ed Helms and Nick Offerman.
Warner Home Entertainment is releasing an Unrated Extended Cut of the R-rated pot comedy with 10 minutes of additional footage. The theatrical version is also available. The combo pack consists of a Blu-ray, DVD, and UltraViolet Digital Copy. Special features include deleted scenes, gag reels and behind-the-scenes snippets.
Action film 2 Guns comes to Blu-ray this week from Universal Studios. 2 Guns stars Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg as DEA agent and a naval officer caught up in mob dealings on both sides of the border. 2 Guns is based on the graphic novel of the same name by Steven Grant. Universal is releasing 2 Guns as a Blu-ray, DVD, Digital Copy, UltraViolet combo pack. Target is offering an exclusive graphic novel. Best Buy’s exclusive is housed in a Metalpak case.
Also making it way to home media this week from Universal Studios is The World’s End. The World’s End is the final chapter of Edgar Wright’s Cornetto Trilogy starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. After 20 years, Pegg, Frost and a few of their buddies reunite to finish a pub crawl. However, there’s little more than a pub crawl happening in the small town of Newton Haven. The World’s End is being released as a Blu-ray, DVD, Digital Copy, UltraViolet combo pack.
Wrapping up this week, Buena Vista Home Entertainment debuts two major releases. First up is Planes, Disney’s first spin-off of their successful Cars franchise. Planes is a by-the-book underdog story of Dusty Crophopper, a crop dusting plane with big dreams. By chance, Dusty finds himself competing in the “Wings Around the Globe” race, attempting to prove he’s belongs high in the sky.
Planes arrives on Blu-ray in several formats. The standard edition available is a Blu-ray, DVD, Digital Copy combo pack. A 3D version with the same features is the alternative release. Target offers bonus discs for both the standard combo pack and the 3D versions.
Coming off of The Little Mermaid: Diamond Edition release last month, Buena Vista is releasing a two-movie set of The Little Mermaid II and III. The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea is a direct-to-video sequel involving Ursula’s sister Morgana seeking revenge on Ariel and her daughter. The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning was also released straight to DVD. The special edition includes one Blu-ray disc and two DVDs.
