Amazon had the latest scheduled time of the studios at 8:15 PM, and it began with a trailer of their film Project Hail Mary starring Ryan Gosling, which is based on the book by Andy Weir. What initially appeared to be another space disaster film in the vein of Armageddon meets Interstellar, the tone shifted very much similar to The Martian, also written by Weir, with a twist where Gosling meets an alien.
Amazon’s Mike Hopkins, Head of Prime Video & Amazon MGM, made not only his debut at CinemaCon but it was the first time for the studio as well. He told the audience that they would show, don’t tell, and when they do something, they do it big and intend on actual theatrical releases. Next up was the Head of Distribution, Kevin Wilson, who brought out Ryan Gosling and directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller to discuss Project Hail Mary.

There were pre-recorded segments starting with Verity, the latest from author Colleen Hoover, with a May 2026 release date, with Hoover herself, director Michael Showalter, and actors Josh Hartnett, Anne Hathaway, and Dakota Johnson introducing the trailer. What may have started like one of Hoover’s previous books, It Ends With Us, a tale of romance, takes on a twist that felt like Gone Girl meets Jordan Peele.
An MGM library title and a third remake of the classic The Thomas Crown Affair brought out a message from its director and star, Michael B. Jordan, saying he was busy in prep for the project and that it would be released in 2026. This would mark the second film he would be directing for the studio after doing Creed 3.
To introduce the trailer for After The Hunt, director Luca Guadagnino and actors Andrew Garfield and Ayo Edibiri graced the stage, but its biggest star, Julia Roberts, was absent. The film, due for an October 2025 release, centered around a female student accusing a male professor, touching on issues of abuse of power, generational entitlement, and possible erotic mystery.
The studio then dropped the trailer for Mercy, which takes place in the future and is played like Minority Report except from a chair. In the future, you must solve your own crime, and artificial intelligence will be your judge and jury. This led to the one gimmick that the studio tried by having Chris Pratt recreate the film’s premise on stage. Still, instead of being accused of an actual crime, he had to win over the audience and theater owners with a call to a friend, Rebecca Ferguson, who also co-stars with Pratt and releases on January 23rd, 2026.
Three Bags Full: A Sheep Detective Movie poster came on the big screen with a good laugh, followed by a pre-recorded message from its stars, Hugh Jackman and Emma Thompson, to introduce a behind-the-scenes and slated for 2026.
Halle Berry, Chris Hemsworth, and director Bart Layton discussed their upcoming Crime 101 before dropping the trailer, which played like Heat meets Point Break.
Orion Pics also dropped the trailer for Is God Is, based on a play about twin sisters who are trying to fulfill their mom’s dying wish and kill their father, which then brought out the main leads, Vivica A. Fox, Kara Young and Mallori Johnson, to discuss it.
Recently, a shift of power at Amazon / MGM had the previous Head, Jennifer Salke, exit for a producing deal, and Courtney Valenti, Head of Film, and Sue Kroll, Head of Marketing, basically came out to deliver a mission statement centered around their dedication to theatrical and also to re-announce one of their biggest deals and biggest franchise 007 having producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman overseeing it for the future.
The Masters of the Universe, based on the 1980s cartoon, had been in development hell with numerous studios, and finally, Amazon/MGM was able to get it off the ground. The presentation did not disappoint and came with on-set pre-recorded pictures and footage from behind the scenes that looked like a true homage to the beloved toy and cartoon. Fans will have to wait until June 5th, 2026, to see it, but we will be anticipating the trailer a lot sooner.
Last but not least, and the only sequel for this particular studio was The Accountant 2, with stars Ben Affleck, Jon Bernthal, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, and Daniela Pineda on stage to discuss the film and drop the final trailer, which is slated in a few weeks on April 25th.
For one of the richest studios with the money to drop, Amazon/MGM appropriately played it humble and low-key for their first time at CinemaCon.
