CinemaCon 2025: Disney Brings Laser Lights, 3D, And Some Fire & Ash!

Rick Hong discusses Disney's panel at CinemaCon 2025, featuring news about films including Zootopia 2, Tron: Ares, Freakier Friday, Predator: Badlands, and Avatar: Fire & Ash.

Disney, the last of the studios to present at CinemaCon, began their presentation with a sizzle reel with the character “Stich” from Lilo & Stich crossing through different scenes of the upcoming films to be discussed and to introduce Alan Bergman Co-Chairman Disney Entertainment.  Bergman first listed Disney’s accomplishments as being number 1 for the last 8 of 9 years, keeping the window for their theatrical releases to 45 days, and finally hitting 5 billion in theatrical sales since the pandemic.

After Andrew Cripps, Head of Theatrical Distribution, came out in a custom-made Stitch 626 jacket and discussed the Disney live-action slate, he introduced Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan to show the Freakier Friday extended trailer.  All footage shown for Disney’s slate was more an extended trailer or scene plus trailer.  This one, in particular, revisits an old flame for Lindsay Lohan’s character with Chad Michael Murray and showcases the dynamic between Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis picked up where they left off.

Red and blue laser lights went across the Colosseum theater to introduce Tron Ares, with Jeff Bridges and Jared Leto introducing the trailer.  We’ve seen the characters go into the world of Tron, this time around that world breaks out with Nine-Inch Nails doing the soundtrack for the film.

20th Century Studios took over and dropped a trailer to remind audiences that The Amateur is just around the corner next week with an April 11th release date.  Predator Badlands scheduled for a November 7th release date had actress Elle Fanning discuss the premise of a good Predator, the footage gave a glimpse of how ugly the new Predator’s face would be.

Deliver Me From Nowhere is the highly anticipated Bruce Springsteen biopic, and it stars Jeremy Allen White playing Springsteen and Jeremy Strong as his manager, Jon Landau to deliver the trailer. Although White dyed his hair to match Springsteen’s dark locks, he doesn’t quite capture the look, and from the music, it sounded more like White lip-syncing.  Audiences will have to wait a bit as there was only a “coming soon.”

Ella McCay releases on September 19th and Jamie Lee Curtis returned to the stage with co-star Emma Mackey to give the Cinema Verite Award to director James L. Brooks and drop his trailer for the film, which is currently in production.

Searchlight was up next with Roses directed by Jay Roach for August 29th inspired by the 1989 War of the Roses, this one stars Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch as a warring couple.

Marvel Studios tried a humorous skit with actors Julia Louis-Dreyfus, David Harbour, and Florence Pugh walking in late for Thunderbolts with fellow co-star Wyatt Rusell, who appeared disheveled, drunk, and lost money at the tables. Thankfully, the trailer saved the weak bit.  It’s slated for May 2nd.  A prerecorded Kevin Feige discussed Avengers: Doomsday before the new Fantastic Four: First Steps trailer and a great reaction from the audience at the surprise first look of a female Silver Surfer character.

For Pixar, audience members were given 3D glasses walking into the Colosseum for Elio on June 20th, introduced by recent Oscar winner Zoe Saldaña, who also voices “Aunt Olga.”

Instead of a trailer, Ke Huy Quan delivered two scenes for Zootopia 2.  Slated for a November 26th release date, Quan will play a snake character, and it is revealed that Dr. Fuzzby, another new character shown in the footage, will be voiced by Quinta Brunson.

To wrap it all up and once again make use of the 3D glasses, director James Cameron came on screen to discuss Avatar: Fire and Ash. Zoe Saldaña returned to the stage once more and delivered an extended look; instead of humans, the Ash people are now in conflict with the Na’vi on December 19th.
