“Elizabeth Olsen Rumored for Scarlet Witch in Avengers 2″
by Brandt Sohn
Elizabeth Olsen is rumored to be the frontrunner for the role of Scarlet Witch in the much-anticipated sequel to Joss Whedon’s 2012 blockbuster hit, The Avengers. Saoirse Ronan, who has previously starred in films such as Atonement and Hanna, has passed on the role for “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” Saoirse Ronan is a great talent who could have done the role justice, which is why this news of her passing up this potentially huge career booster is so surprising. Whatever the reason being, the role is now up for grabs and it looks like Olsen might be the actress who catches the opportunity.
Elizabeth Olsen is a strong actress who has tackled several dramatic films, including one of 2011’s more underrated films Martha Marcy May Marlene. However, The Avengers: Age of Ultron will be her biggest film to date if she lands the role. Will her talent as a dramatic actress fit Scarlet Witch? Only time will tell, but this role would give Olsen a lot of welcomed exposure as an actress who is quickly becoming one of the better actresses of her generation.
Olsen has the looks and ability to bring Scarlet Witch to life, but will she be donning the accent as well? Or will some characteristics of the character be changed from page to screen? These are all questions that we will have to wait for, but in the time being, it seems as though the character is in great hands as the exciting rumors for this much anticipated sequel keeps brewing. Until this rumor is confirmed, you can check out Elizabeth Olsen this fall in Spike Lee’s remake of Oldboy.
