The first trailer has just been released for Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four, ahead of the UK premiere of Kingsman: The Secret Service, which the trailer is attached to.

See it here:

Fantastic Four is a project that has been kept under wraps for quite some time now, and the trailer showed us the first official footage from the film. The film is a reboot of the previous 2005 Fantastic Four series, and apparently is looking to take a much different approach to its main characters and story.

Unlike the previous Fantastic Four series, the characters travel to an alternate dimension, which alters their physical form, instead of traveling to space. When the characters get back they must learn how to control and harness their powers.

On the trailer, the film certainly does look to be more sci-fi than anything else, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. If the filmmakers have made a compelling sci-fi tale that lacks the look and feel of a normal superhero film, then they would have done their job. It’s also nice to see that Fox is allowing Trank to take creative liberties with the film, and that he is leading Fantastic Four in a different direction.

On the film, Trank has said, “I’m a huge David Cronenberg fan, and I always viewed Fantastic Four and the kind of weirdness that happens to these characters and how they’re transformed to really fall in line more with a Cronenberg-ian science fiction tale of something horrible happening to your body and [it] transforming out of control.”

The cast of Fantastic Four includes Miles Teller as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Kate Mara as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm/The Thing, Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, Toby Kebbell as Victor Domashev and Reg E. Cathey as Dr. Franklin Storm.

The film is written by Simon Kinberg, and produced by Kinberg, Matthew Vaughn, Hutch Parker, Robert Kulzar and Gregory Goodman.

Fantastic Four will hit theaters on August 7, 2015.
