At a Warner Bros. shareholders meeting, CEO Kevin Tsujihara announced a massive slate of upcoming DC Comics films. Previously the company had set nine release dates for DC films, but today the films filling those slots have been revealed.
On top of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016, Warner Bros. will also be releasing a Suicide Squad film. The film has been set for an August 5, 2016 release date and will be directed by David Ayer.
Even more exciting, announced for 2017 was a solo Wonder Woman film. This is a movie fans have wanting for a very long time, as there is a shortage of female superheroes in film. Gal Gadot is expected to play Wonder Woman in the film as she will be playing the character in Batman v Superman in 2016.
While the Wonder Woman movie will be released on June 23, 2017, Justice League: Part One has been confirmed for a November 12, 2017 release. Returning for the film will be Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, and Amy Adams.
2018 sees the release of The Flash and Aquaman on March 23 and July 27, respectively. As many speculated, Aquaman will be played by Game of Thrones actor Jason Momoa. Actor Ezra Miller has been cast to play the character of Flash in the upcoming movie. Miller gave a fantastic performance in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and is a very unique choice for the role. His casting comes as a major surprise as very few knew he was in the running for the role.
Dwayne Johnson will star in a Shazam movie on April 5, 2019 as villain Black Adam. On June 4, 2019 Justice League: Part Two, directed by Zack Snyder, will hit theaters.
A Cyborg solo movie will be released on April 3, 2020 with Ray Fisher in the lead role, followed by a Green Lantern solo movie on June 6.
Although official release dates were not revealed, Warner Bros. announced that a Batman solo film and another standalone Man of Steel film were in development.
This is certainly a lot of news to come from Warner Bros. and DC, especially considering that fans have been waiting for this announcement for a very long time. Many of the films DC will be releasing in years to come are very interesting choices, with outside-of-the-box casting decisions. All of these major announcements seem to be a step in the right direction for WB and DC.
