Critic Reviews for Guardians of the Galaxy
It’s official. 2014 is the year of awesome superhero movies, and Guardians of the Galaxy is no exception. All of the actors did a good job. Especially Chris Pratt, who proves that he’s a star. Bradley cooper stole that show as Rocket Raccoon and Zoe Saldana was good as Gamora. You could easily buy her as someone who could kick ass. The action scenes are a ton of fun and the space battles resembled Star Wars. The soundtrack is cool as well. If you like 70s music, then you’ll love the songs that are used. I really loved the way “Cherry Bomb” by The Runaways was used.
My pieces of criticism is that while I think a lot of the humor works, considering that this is Marvel’s funniest movie, some of the jokes are a little overboard. And the end credits scene. Without giving it away, it was a major WTF moment. And it didn’t tease the next movie.
Overall, Guardians of the Galaxy was funny and exciting. James Gunn made something fantastic.
Keeping my expectations in check paid off in a major way. I had a blast with this Marvel gem. I fell in love with the Guardians. They are all unique and awesome in their own way. Of course, Rocket steals the show. I mean, you try upstaging a gun-toting, trash-talking raccoon. The action was spectacular, the visuals effects and makeup were perfect, and that soundtrack had me groovin’ all the way through. The villain was underused and the plot was familiar to other Marvel films but those complaints are minor compared to the awesomeness of this incredibly fun, far out film. I’m very excited to see more from these Guardians.
So much fun! I had a laugh-out-loud time with James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. The strength of the comedy knocked a little wind out of the danger and stakes of nemesis Ronan the Accuser, but not even that couldn’t take anything away from the awesomeness of this summer blockbuster!
Guardians of the Galaxy is an awesome adrenaline rush of a space movie. It’s superheroes in space. If that’s not awesome then I don’t know what is. Dave Bautista is a little weak in his acting as Drax and the villains Ronan and Nebula are kinda bland but everything else about the film is so much fun to watch. Beautiful visuals to go with the eye-candy action sequences. Great storyline, great humor to make me laugh hard, nice dramatic moments when they need to be there, and amazing 70s and 80s music that plays throughout the whole film. Rocket Raccoon is by far the show-stealer of the film in my opinion. This Marvel space adventure is outstanding.
This is the best Film of this summer in my opinion and my favorite film of 2014 so far! I can’t wait to see this again, multiple times.
I thought the start of the film was just a bit rough but once the Guardians get together things pick up and take off. I love the soundtrack in the film. The vocal songs really fit the situations and added an extra bit of fun. You really forget Rocket and Groot are CGI characters and the special effects overall were great.
My only real issue was with a specific scene that was put in to connect it directly with The Avengers. It was not needed and didn’t really add anything to the plot. The other issue I had is the one I have with all of these big movies: the trailers and video clips reveal way too much of the film. I also wish there would have been a longer fight between Gamora and Nebula.
Overall it is a great time at the theater and definitely worth the price of admission.
Guardians has no issues beating to its own drum. Visually and thematically, the film expands the scope of Marvel’s universe to an unexpected level of vintage charm and an out-of-this-world roller coaster vibe.
Marvel has been kicking loads of ass this year and what a way to end their lineup this year! All of the actors did great in their roles with the show-stealer being Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon. I haven’t had this much fun since Pacific Rim last year.
Though I think the film is a bit over-hyped, Guardians of the Galaxy is still a very entertaining ride. Chris Pratt and Bradley Cooper own the screen in their roles as Peter Quill and Rocket. The relationships between the five main characters are what give this film its biggest boost. The humor and visual effects are top-notch as well. However, I found the story to be basic, the villains bland, and the majority of the strong supporting cast — outside of the main five — having their talents wasted (with the exception of Michael Rooker). The film has its issues in my eyes, but it is still a ton of fun.
Just… incredible! Marvel’s done it again. This summer keeps getting better and better with their blockbusters! All of the cast did great, especially Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket. He is the funniest character in a film this year so far. James Gunn made a well-directed movie, he really did. I had so much fun with this movie and I can’t wait to see it again!
