Ashley Menzel: Lady Bird (9/10)
Greta Gerwig succeeds in every way with Lady Bird, and I can’t wait to see what she does next. The story speckled with humor and emotionally charged moments is the perfect coming of age story for the everyday woman. Reminding ourselves of our desire to leave but always remembering from where we came.
Scott Menzel: Lady Bird (9/10)
Greta Gerwig’s directorial debut is something special and proves that Gerwig is not only a talent in front of the camera but behind one as well. In a sea of coming of age movies, Lady Bird stands out as a truly fantastic film. It is a film that will become a cult classic and be discussed by generations to come. This is finally a great coming of age film that relates to women as much as it does to men. Lady Bird is Greta Gerwig’s personal and poignant coming of age masterpiece.
Zachary Marsh: Lady Bird (9/10)
Saoirse Ronan is the perfect embodiment of writer/director Greta Gerwig, managing to be lovable and irritating at the same time. The supporting cast is also great, with Laurie Metcalf, in particular, showing some exceptional acting chops in her performance. Tracy Letts is one of America’s national treasures, and between this and The Lovers, I think it’s safe to say that this has been an awesome year for him. This movie will make you laugh, and it might make you cry. Whether you’re a son or a daughter or a mother or a father, I’m pretty positive that everyone will see something of themselves in either the titular character, her family, and/or her assortment of eccentric and likable friends.
Kevin Folk: Lady Bird (10/10)
A stunning look at an imperfect teen preparing to take on the world. Just an incredible film in every way that is full of so much heart and passion. Filled with amazing performances from the entire cast and an incredible directorial debut from Greta Gerwig. Definitely, want to give a more in-depth review later but for now, I’ll say this does for Catholic school what Edge of Seventeen did for public school. The result is one of the most realistic coming- of age films I’ve ever seen.
