Toothless Flies High in Latest How to Train Your Dragon 2 Trailer
by Matt Marshall
DreamWorks Animation debuted the first full trailer for How to Train Your Dragon 2 Thursday morning, glimpsing at what’s to come for next summer’s animated adventure.
Picking up five years after the previous film, dragons and Vikings of Berk remain united in second installment. Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) and his dragon Toothless venture north to find more than either would expect. The two meet Valka (Cate Blanchett), who knows more about dragons than just your average Viking. But when a new rider threatens the peace, all that’s been accomplished could be lost forever.
Back in 2010, How to Train Your Dragon transformed into an overnight success for DreamWorks Animation. Soaring to over $217 million domestically, the dragon tale spawned a TV series (DreamWorks Dragons) and not one, but two sequels. A third film is set for 2016.
The trailer immensely expands upon the teaser released in July. This time around, there’s way more Hiccup and Toothless – bonding, battling and questing. And Hiccup’s matured aplenty from the last time we saw him on the big screen. Then there’s Toothless who’s as adorable a dragon as ever.
But that’s not all that’s changed. While the 2010 film was constricted to simply Berk, How to Train Your Dragon 2 explores the world even further. Part of the film takes place in the Arctic where Hiccup and Toothless are introduced to Blanchett’s dragon protector. But the trailer does give away spoilerish facts about her character.
Like the first film, expect plenty of action, adventure and at least one major battle sequence in snow.
How to Train Your Dragon 2 features the voice talents of Baruchel, Blanchett, Gerard Butler, America Fererra, Craig Ferguson, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Kristen Wiig and Djimon Hounsou. The film is set to release June 13, 2014.
