‘Incredibles 2’ Trailer: It’s Super Daddy Day Care
Fans of The Incredibles have been waiting patiently for the sequel – and Incredibles 2 is almost here – but this first more extended trailer, which premiered during the Olympics last night, is a little all over the place.
It’s clear they are pushing the idea that the patriarch Bob Parr (voice of Craig T. Nelson) has to shuttle his Mr. Incredible duties for a bit so he can be a stay-at-home dad. Helen (voice of Holly Hunter) as Elastigirl has been asked to lead a campaign to bring Supers back, so Bob must take care of the three kids, Violet (voice of Sarah Vowell), Dash (voice of Huck Milner) and baby Jack-Jack—whose superpowers are revealing themselves in very inappropriate times for the harried dad. A new villain, however, emerges with a “brilliant and dangerous plot” to wreak havoc, and the Incredibles team must once again join forces, along with Frozone (voice of Samuel L. Jackson). Other voices included are Bob Odenkirk, Catherine Keener, Jonathan Banks, Sophia Bush and Isabella Rossellini.
We don’t see much of that storyline in this first trailer, but that’s cool. I get what the objective is, to show more of the humor up front. Unfortunately, it’s just a bit jumbled and comes off as a little hokey, which you definitely don’t want in an Incredibles sequel.

This isn’t deterring me from being way excited for Incredibles 2, though. The fact the sequel is once again written and directed by Brad Bird (who also reprises the voice of superhero costume designer Edna) gives me high hopes, and honestly, Pixar rarely ever disappoints. Except for a few missteps, like Cars and Cars 3, the animation studio is still the leader in quality films that always make the story the top priority.
The Incredibles 2 looms large in theater June 15.
