Yesterday, after what seemed like an especially long wait, Marvel’s Ant-Man officially began production.
Not only will the film be beginning production, but also many actors have been added to the film’s cast as well. The new additions include John Slattery, Judy Greer, rapper TI, Bobby Cannavale, Abby Ryder Forston, Wood Harris, and Gregg Turkington.
Many of the added actors are amazing character actors and it will certainly be interesting to see who they will be playing in the film.
They will all be joining Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, Michael Douglas as Dr. Hank Pym, Evangeline Lily as Hope van Dyne, daughter of Pym, and Corey Stoll as Yellowjacket, the film’s antagonist.
Michael Pena and David Dastmalchian are also in the film, in roles that have yet to be revealed.
Mad Men’s John Slattery is no stranger to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as he played the role of Howard Stark in 2010’s Iron Man 2. For Ant-Man he will be reprising his role.
Coming off of the recent success of Guardians of the Galaxy, there is a lot of pressure on Ant-Man to continue with Marvel’s hot streak of well reviewed and financially successful movies. It will certainly be interesting to see what the finished product of Ant-Man is like.
Needless to say, it has been a bumpy road for Ant-Man to get to this point. Between the late-in-the-game director shuffle, where Edgar Wright stepped down, leaving Peyton Reed to fill his shoes, and multiple cast members, including Patrick Wilson, dropping out of the film, much has gone on over at Marvel Studios.
However, through all of the behind-the-scenes mayhem you can’t deny the fact that the film has managed to surprise us with various aspects of its casting and production.
The film will hit theaters on July 17, 2015.
