New to Blu-ray: ‘Rogue Nation’ Tops Latest Sequels, Reboots

‘Rogue Nation’ Leads a Loaded Blu-ray Lineup

For the week of December 15th, Tom Cruise returns to his most lucrative role of his career in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, which come home on Blu-ray. Also due out this week is Marvel’s reboot Fantastic Four, YA sequel Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials and comedy sequel Ted 2.

In Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, IMF agent Ethan Hunt (Cruise) is tracking a rogue organization called the Syndicate, which is committed to destroying the IMF. Joining Cruise in this fifth installment are Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames and franchise newcomer Rebecca Ferguson.

Rogue Nation comes from Paramount Home Entertainment as a Blu-ray, DVD, Digital HD combo pack. At Best Buy, Mission: Impossible will be available in an exclusive steelbook. Target is also releasing The Impossible Stunts Edition, which includes a 48-page book and a bonus disc with 90 minutes of supplemental content.

Fox Home Entertainment has two major releases this week. First up is the Marvel reboot of Fantastic Four also known by its marketing name Fant4stic this Tuesday. Josh Trank’s reboot reintroduces Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, The Human Torch and The Thing in a much darker, brooding world than its 2005 counterpart. Once again, the four gain superpowers from radiation and ultimately confront the evil Dr. Doom. Fantastic Four stars Miles Teller (Whiplash), Kate Mara (The Martian), Michael B. Jordan (Creed) and Jamie Bell (Snowpiercer).

Fox is going bares bones on the reboot’s home media release with a Blu-ray, Digital HD combo pack. Like with Rogue Nation, Best Buy is releasing a single-disc exclusive steelbook. Target’s exclusive includes a 26-page photo diary.

Also set for release this week from Fox is its YA sequel, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials. The Scorch Trials picks up where the 2014 blockbuster left off. The kids have escaped the trials of the previous films, only to end up in the titular Scorch, a desolate landscape with even more terrors ahead. Dylan O’Brien, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Ki Hong Lee, Kaya Scodelario and Patricia Clarkson all return for a second round. Frozen’s Alan Tudyk and Game of Thrones’ Aiden Gillen join the cast.

The Scorch Trials is distributed by Fox as a Blu-ray, DVD, Digital HD combo pack. An exclusive steelbook from Best Buy will be available. Target will be selling an exclusive 24-page photo diary and prequel comic book.

Last up this week from Universal Home Entertainment is comedy sequel, Ted 2. Seth MacFarlane’s foul-mouthed teddy bear returns in this second installment, who must prove that he is a person rather a piece of property. Mark Wahlberg returns as Ted’s best friend John. Amanda Seyfried and Morgan Freeman join the cast as attornies who help Ted plead his case.

An unrated version of Ted 2 is available from Universal as a Blu-ray, DVD, Digital HD combo pack. An exclusive steelbook will be available at Target, while those who purchase the film at Best Buy can pick a Ted plush.
