News – 2012 MTV Movie Awards Nominations Announced

By Delon Villanueva

Bridesmaids and, unsurprisingly, The Hunger Games lead the nominations this year at the MTV Movie Awards. The Hunger Games was released this past March, so it was lucky enough to snag some nominations for this year’s awards ceremony, and not wait for next year’s, much like its not-so-intimidating competitors Harry Potter and Twilight. Sure, a year ago, the last Potter film or Twilight would have been locked in on many of the awards, but it’s 2012, and everyone’s got Hunger Games fever. The Hunger Games isn’t the only 2012 film to show up in this year’s nominations, as R-rated comedies Project X and 21 Jump Street also received some nominations, especially considering its young target audience. Though a few shocking nominations included some for the very non-mainstream Drive. It’s quite odd that this arthouse flick got shut out by the Academy and gets recognized by MTV! Some other pleasant surprise nominees are Joseph Gordon-Levitt for his performance in 50/50, Hanna in the music category, and Tom Cruise’s “gut-wrenching performance” in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. Everything else should be nothing new to you…it’s MTV. What do you expect? Here are the rest of the nominees:
