As their partnership with DreamWorks Animation will come to a close at the end of this year, Paramount Pictures has announced that one of their first animated projects after that split will be a second Spongebob Squarepants movie. The first one released back in 2004, and made over $140 million worldwide, and received generally positive reviews from both critics and die-hard fans of the show.
Personally, I don’t think this is a good move to make a second movie this late, especially due to how downward the show has gone in terms of humor. But keep in mind that Paramount’s first fully owned animated movie was Rango, which just won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature on Sunday. Otherwise, no details have been released on what the plot for this film will be, but it will most definitely be another adventure that chronicles the misadventures of Spongebob and his starfish best friend Patrick.
