It’s hard to imagine the last film directed by horror guru Eli Roth was Hostel: Part II, way back in 2007. Roth produced The Last Exorcism and acted in Inglourious Basterds, but horror fans haven’t been lucky enough to see the director of Cabin Fever back behind the camera for a while now. Today we have good news. Roth is attached to direct a horror/thriller film titled The Green Inferno.
The film will be financed by Worldview Entertainment, who has stated that the plot details are super secretive. We do know that Roth co-wrote the screenplay with Guillermo Amoedo, who wrote the film Aftershock, starring Eli Roth as one of the main actors. The two garnered inspiration for The Green Inferno while filming Aftershock in Chile.
Though the movie’s details are being kept secret, Roth sure does seem excited about the project, stating in a comment at the press release for the news, “I believe this will be the scariest and most intense film I have made to date. I want audiences worldwide to feel my return to directing was worth the wait.” Excited? Currently Roth is producing The Last Exorcism II as well as a sci-fi/horror show for Netflix called Hemlock Grove.
