Joss Whedon, the director of the highly anticipated Marvel comic book film The Avengers, is already talking about how he is going about the squeal. This is what Whedon was saying his approach to the sequel is going to be and how he going to make it better: “By not trying to. By being smaller. More personal, more painful. By being the next thing that should happen to these characters, and not just a rehash of what seemed to work the first time. By having a theme that is completely fresh and organic to itself.” That is what Whedon said when asked how he was going to make The Avengers 2 better. Although the first film isn’t out yet, the trailers look amazing and I think that any approach to the sequel would be good coming from this director.
I believe that Whedon, like a lot of people was is inspired by Francis Ford Coppola’s work. I get the impression that he was inspired because of what he said about Coppola’s The Godfather Part II. “By having flashbacks to young Michael Andolini escaping Sicily to come to New York, where he will be called Corleone. Sequels are always better when that happens.” Critics and fans often both say that The Godfather Part II is the best out of the series, and it is said to believe that The Godfather Part II is one of the best sequels of all time. With that being said, imagine if Joss Whedon takes Coppola’s approach to The Avengers‘ sequel.
