After apparently hitting it off while working on the set of Michael Bay’s newest film Pain and Gain, Bay and Mark Wahlberg are teaming up again for Transformers 4. Michael Bay announced on his own website that “Mark is awesome. We had a blast working on Pain and Gain and I’m so fired up to be back working with him. An actor of his caliber is the perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers’ legacy.” Bay had originally denied the rumors last week, but admitted the internet chatter gave him some new ideas while the two were filming together.
Shia Labeouf is not returning to the franchise as he is apparently no longer interested in acting in blockbuster films and Josh Duhamel’s return is in question. There is no word yet on what kind of role Wahlberg will play but it does possibly change the landscape of things in the Transformers universe as Michael Bay appears ready to take the series in a new direction. The Director famous for his high budget special effects films said earlier this year “We’re taking the story that you’ve seen—the story we’ve told in three movies already—and we’re taking it in a new direction. But we’re leaving those three as the history. It all still counts… We’re moving on to something different.”
Pain and Gain, a story of a couple of body builders who get involved in a life of crime releases April 26th and also stars Dwayne Johnson. Transformers 4 is slated for a June 27th, 2014 release date and starts shooting in the Spring.
