Ryan Murphy is set to direct the “The Normal Heart,” based on the Tony Award-winning play that focuses on the rise of the HIV-AIDS crisis, in New York City in the early ‘80s. Murphy is probably best known as the creator of the TV shows “Glee” and “Nip/Tuck.” He’s also directed several feature films including “Eat, Pray, Love” and “Running with Scissors.” It’s recently been announced that stars from these two films have signed onto “The Normal Heart.” Julia Roberts and Alec Baldwin will be joining Mark Ruffalo, as well as two actors better known for their TV roles: Jim Parsons from “The Big Bang Theory” and Matt Bomer from “White Collar.” Parsons is the only cast member so far, to be reprising his role from the Broadway show.
The cast is falling into place and the film script has been written by the original playwright, Larry Kramer. No production dates have been set.
