“The Amazing Spider-Man” Sequel’s Villain May be Jamie Foxx as Electro

According to Variety Jamie Foxx is in talks to be the villain in Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Even more interesting is the fact that he is in talks to play Electro; a character from the Spider-Man comic books that gets struck by lightning and gains the power to control electricity; a character that hasn’t been touched upon in previous Spider-Man films although it was hinted at in the post credits sequence of The Amazing Spider-Man. Foxx added to speculation that he would be taking on the character by tweeting “Dressed up as Electro for Halloween last night. Costume fits well.”
Foxx is one of the few actors left in Hollywood to not yet portray a hero or villain from comic book lure in the movies. He’s more than proven his acting chops with his performance as Ray Charles in 2004’s Ray for which he received more than his fair share of critical acclaim including an Oscar win. He’s starred in plenty of films since that haven’t garnered nearly the same praise although he seems to be taking on more interesting roles as of late, including the upcoming Quentin Tarantino project Django Unchained and another Sony film titled White House Down alongside of Channing Tatum.
The Amazing Spider-man 2 returns Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone as well with the first film’s director, Marc Webb, and is set for a release date of May 2, 2014.
