Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, directors of last year’s massive hit The Lego Movie, have reportedly come on board DC’s upcoming film The Flash. The two of them are currently working on a treatment for the film, which will be centered around the popular superhero The Flash (Barry Allen), who has the ability run and move extremely fast.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower and We Need to Talk About Kevin actor Ezra Miller is set to play the title character in the film. No other cast members have joined the project yet.
Lord and Miller have not signed on to the project as directors yet, but it seems that Warner Bros. is a huge fan of both, especially after their film The Lego Movie proved to be a massive success at the box office. The Lego Movie made close to $470 million on a $60 million budget.
The film even garnered a Best Animated Feature Golden Globe nomination, and has seemingly jump-started a whole series of upcoming Lego themed films. Films such as Lego Ninjago, The Lego Batman Movie, The Lego Movie Sequel and The Billion Brick Race, have all been announced as a direct result of the film’s success.
In general, the two directors have been on a roll for the past couple of years. Their string of hit films began in 2009 with Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, a film that received very positive reviews from critics and earned impressive numbers at the box office.
In 2012, they directed 21 Jump Street starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, which has been labeled as one of the best comedies of the decade, and then went on to match that level of success with 2014’s 22 Jump Street.
On top of all of that, Lord and Miller’s FOX comedy The Last Man on Earth was recently picked up for a second season.
There is a very good chance The Flash will be the duo’s next film, however, they are also being eyed to direct a Ghostbusters movie at Sony, which could possibly interfere.
The Flash will be hitting theaters on March 23, 2018.
