Universal Studios released a teaser trailer for The Purge: Anarchy online early Wednesday afternoon. The Purge: Anarchy takes place exactly one year after the events of the first movie. The rules of the first movie remain the same. All criminal activity is legal for 12 hours without retaliation from law enforcement or the government.
However, this time around The Purge: Anarchy does not happen within the confines of a fortified home. A couple breaks down in a random town on the night of the annual event. The two unfortunately know what night it is and are quickly confronted by a pair of masked motorcycle riders with free reign courtesy of “the Purge.” That’s just the start of the 12 hours of chaos. The trailer also shows glimpses of cars and buildings on fire plus a few gun-wielding maniacs.
The plenty more mayhem hinted at in the 1:34 long trailer. Add on top of that, a more patriotic theme with “America the Beautiful” playing throughout the trailer and a distorted American flag behind the title logo. A female announcer thanks the people for their continuous support and roles in making “the Purge” a success.
The sequel features a brand new cast starring Frank Grillo, Zach Gilford, Michael K. Williams, Carmen Ejogo and Kiele Sanchez and is directed by James DeMonaco (The Purge).
Last year, The Purge grossed $64 million domestically and $90 million worldwide.
Who will survive the night this time around? Find out as The Purge: Anarchy continues its annual tradition June 20. The full trailer is available down below via Universal Pictures.
