Although brief, the trailer certainly does its job. Seeing actual footage from the film after years of anticipation was strange and amazing at the same time.

Many cast members were not seen in the trailer. However, we did get a glimpse at Daisy Ridley riding some sort of vehicle, Oscar Isaac piloting what may be an X-Wing fighter, and John Boyega looking worried while in stormtrooper attire. We also saw a cloaked individual, presumably belonging to the dark side, drawing a three-sided lightsaber.

The enigmatic voiceover was also a nice touch. We still don’t know what the voiceover meant but it definitely added a sense of mystery and intrigue.

Perhaps the most nostalgic part of the trailer came with seeing the Millennium Falcon, Han Solo’s method of transportation, taking to the skies once again. The blasting of John Williams’ signature Star Wars theme at the end of the trailer was a perfect cap to the 88-second teaser.

Most importantly, the movie looks like a Star Wars film. The trailer captures the same feeling that one might have while watching a film of the original trilogy.

The Force Awakens is the seventh installment in the Star Wars film franchise. It has been highly anticipated by diehard Star Wars fans and casual moviegoers alike since its announcement when Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012.

J.J. Abrams is the brave man who will be helming the film, which is being held to incredibly high expectations from fans who hope that Episode VII will redeem the film franchise after the much-hated prequel trilogy. The last Star Wars film, Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, was released in 2005, leaving 10 years between the end of the prequel trilogy and the start of the new trilogy.

Kathleen Kennedy, Bryan Burk and Abrams are all producing the project. Abrams has also collaborated with Lawrence Kasdan, co-writer of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, on the film’s screenplay.

The Force Awakens has an all-star cast of series favorites and newcomers, including John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and many more.

Expect to see Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens in theaters on December 18, 2015.
