Tom Hardy will no longer be playing Rick Flagg in Warner Bros.’ 2016 film Suicide Squad.

The Dark Knight Rises and Warrior actor, who would have played the leader of the group of super villains who must team up to perform extremely dangerous missions, left the film due to scheduling conflicts.

Although Hardy leaving the film is very unfortunate news, as he is one of the most talented actors working today, the film still has a more than satisfying cast, including Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jared Leto as The Joker, Jai Courtney as Boomerang and Cara Delevingne as Enchantress.

Also, as a bit of good news, Jake Gyllenhaal is being eyed to replace Hardy in the film. To say the least, Gyllenhaal has been on a roll recently. Last year he starred in two critically acclaimed films, Nightcrawler and Enemy. His performances in both films were highly praised and he even managed to garner a SAG and Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor for Nightcrawler.

Gyllenhaal also previously collaborated with Suicide Squad writer and director David Ayer on the 2012 film End of Watch. An offer for the actor is on the table, but many are unsure of the likelihood of him taking the role, as he is currently performing in a play on Broadway entitled Constellations.

Losing Hardy is certainly bad news, but if anyone had to take his spot, Gyllenhaal would be the perfect choice.

This year, Hardy will be starring in a long list of projects that consists of Mad Max: Fury Road, Child 44, London Driver, Legend and The Revenant. The Revenant, written and directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, is currently filming and is reportedly the cause of Hardy’s scheduling conflict, as the film’s shoot took longer than expected.

Suicide Squad will shoot in Toronto from mid-April to September. The film is set for an August 15, 2016 release date and will be the first DC film released after Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
