Sundance Hit “Under the Electric Sky” To Open In Limited Release This Summer

Under the Electric Sky

The documentary, Under the Electric Sky, premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival and received rave reviews. Today, Focus Features has announced their plans for the film to be released in select theaters this summer.

Following sold-out TUGG screenings around the country on May 29th  filled with dancing fans, Focus Features will release  Under the Electric Sky in theaters beginning in June. Shot in breathtaking 3D, Under the Electric Sky  chronicles the life, love, community, and passion of festival-goers attending the Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) Las Vegas — the largest music festival in the U.S. The film follows five compelling stories of fans journeying from all parts of the world to experience the wonder of EDC. Riveting live performance footage, behind-the-scenes access, and exclusive interviews reveal the magic that has made this three-night, 345,000-person event a global phenomenon.

Directors Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz’s previous credits include such concert documentary hits as  Katy Perry: Part of Me  and Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, which grossed nearly $100 million at the worldwide box office. Under the Electric Sky, which world-premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, was produced by Haven Entertainment’s Rachel Miller and Kevin Mann.

Cutforth and Ms. Lipsitz bring the event to life by going behind the scenes to show what it takes to stage one of the biggest parties in the known universe. They chronicle the unique journeys of individual attendees from different walks of life, all of whom share one common desire – to shed their inhibitions and immerse themselves in this judgment-free celebration of life and music. Renowned artist Kaskade created the musical score to accompany the film, and KCRW music director Jason Bentley acted as the music supervisor for the documentary.
