Leslye Headland is awesome. Over the years, I have sat through hundreds of Q&As and no one has been as passionate about their film as Headland was during the Q&A following the 2nd screening of her film at Sundance. What does the Q&A have to do with the film itself? Well, it has a lot to do with it. As a film lover, you can see that a lot of the scenes in Sleeping with Other People have been inspired by various films from the 80s and 90s. That alone is pretty awesome but to see in person that the writer/director is really that much of a film geek takes that to a whole new level. As for the overall film, I normally don’t like sex comedies that contain as much raunchy humor as this film did, but I cannot deny that I really enjoyed it. What made this film work was Headland’s writing and direction as well as the incredible chemistry between Community’s Alison Brie and Jason Sudeikis. These two have amazing chemistry that honestly works from the film’s first 10 minutes and lasts throughout this entire journey. This is also a great film to see Adam Scott play a character that is extremely different from any character that he has played before. Scott is a complete douchebag in this film but man does he really nail the role. All in all, Sleeping With Other People is a hard R raunchy comedy that feels honest yet is wildly entertaining. It is one of the better sex comedies that I have seen in quite sometime and can only hope that more people will see this film in the near future.
