The Best Films of the 2015 Sundance Film Festival

  1. Grandma

Grandma Sundance Movie

Lily Tomlin stars as a trash talking lesbian grandma that helps her granddaughter Sage (Julia Garner) get an abortion. The idea here is extremely simple but the casting and chemistry between all the characters is what makes Grandma such an incredible treat. Most of the film’s short but sweet 80 minute runtime is shared between Garner and Tomlin who bounce off one another as if they were actually related. Grandma is definitely a comedy but that doesn’t mean that the film lacks heartfelt moments. I honestly didn’t expect Grandma to be anything special when walking into it but that feeling definitely changed after seeing it. It is a unique blend of buddy road trip comedy meets dysfunctional family entertainment.
