SUMMARY OF THOUGHTS: Tom Cruise is great in the title role and the film features some fine mystery elements and action scenes. But Jack Reacher  is also cheesy and uneven to the point of distraction.

Grade: B

This was a good time, but I wish it didn’t feel so uneven.

  • Leah Hather (Bright Eyes Long Lashes):

Grade: B

A great mystery film with Tom Cruise delivering a solid performance as Jack Reacher. Nice to see a good balance between action and mystery and I can see the potential for a franchise.

  • James Michael Holtz (WeWatchedAMovie):

Grade: C+

Tom Cruise is 100% badass as Jack Reacher but nobody else in the film is worth caring about. The action scenes are great and the hand-to-hand combat scenes are original; there just needed to be more of them to sustain the film’s awkward pace.

  • Steven Hunt:

Grade: B

A solid mystery movie. Tom Cruise is perfect in this role, and had anyone else played Jack Reacher the movie would’ve been considerably worse. The supporting cast is decent but not very memorable. When there is action, it is really well filmed and the car chase is fantastic. There were some predictable elements, which made the experience slightly less enjoyable. Overall, a fun movie that I can see a lot of people liking.

  • John Maffeo:

Grade: C

Tom Cruise, like always, doesn’t disappoint with his starring role but the film oozes issues such as bland drama and an overpoweringly cheesy score. Engagement sizzles out slowly like a soda bottle, but the last act does provide entertainment. Overall, it’s a perfect “2:00 AM TNT Cable” movie!

  • Zachary S. Marsh:

Grade: B

A fun and interesting action-mystery with an awesome performance from Tom Cruise.

  • Scott Menzel:

Grade: B+

What a surprisingly fun flick! Tom Cruise uses his sarcasm, wit, and charm to really deliver the goods in this film. While this is not a movie that can be taken seriously, it is definitely one action film that brought a smile to my face throughout the entire run time. It’s smart, engaging, and a damn fun film. One of my favorite guilty pleasures of the year.

  • Austin Putnam:

Grade: B-

Tom Cruise does a great job playing a role of someone who’s supposed to be physically demeaning, along with Richard Jenkins and Robert Duvall. The action scenes (even though there’s only three) were great and it’s really fun to watch Cruise kick ass, although the rest of the cast wasn’t as good. The dialogue goes from cheesy to just plain abysmal at times. Plus the ending felt a bit anti-climatic. Overall, it may be cheesy, but it was a good time.

  • Christian Ruvalcaba:

Grade: C+

Tom Cruise does a great job in the lead role. The script is poorly written and many of the supporting characters damper the movie down. This movie has far too much silliness to take completely serious. However, the movie does deliver some great action scenes and one-liners that are unforgettable.
