SUMMARY OF THOUGHTS: Olympus Has Fallen has some nonsensical moments and occasionally poor CGI, but a solid performance by Gerard Butler and the non-stop action keeps things lively. It also features a 80s/90s action movie vibe.

A fun, action-packed time at the movies. This is what A Good Day to Die Hard  should have been. Although it features way too many copies of the original Die Hard and some characters I could have done without, I still had a hell of a time watching the non-stop action take place on screen. Butler was also very good in the role, and coming from someone who doesn’t like him, that’s saying something.

  • Joe Cauwel:

Grade: C

Overall, kind of bad. The movie Morgan Freeman could not save.

  • Chad Gleason (MovieManCHAD):

Grade: B-

Ridiculous, silly, and over the top. And it reminded me of an 80s action movie. I laughed and enjoyed it the whole time!

  • James Michael Holtz (WeWatchedAMovie):

Grade: B+

I miss movies like this. It’s like Air Force One and Die Hard had a cheesy but fun baby together. Gerard Butler is perfect as the bad-ass one-man army and it’s nice to see a straight-up R-rated action film that’s not a gimmick or throwback intentionally.

  • Nick Iacobucci:

Grade: D-

This is really a very poor excuse for a wanna-be action thriller. ‘Suspension of disbelief’ is replaced by ‘Suspension of Common Sense,’ and there’s not one performance worth mentioning. When Morgan Freeman can’t save it, it really isn’t worth saving.

  • John Maffeo:

Grade: B-

An action flick that spiritually holds the hands of many earlier action classics, including Die Hard. If this was released 20 years ago, it may have had more of an impact, but it’s still incredibly fun nonetheless. Gerard Butler carries the film with a strong performance, his best since playing King Leonidas.

  • Steven Merced:

Grade: B+

Olympus Has Fallen is a 90s nostalgia piece wrapped in awesome. It has some great action scenes, pretty good acting from the all-star cast, and Gerald Butler being the best action movie hero this side of John McClane. The movie does have its flaws, like poor CGI and special effects, along with a plain familiar plot. But none of them should hold you back from having a good time at the movies.

  • Christian Ruvalcaba:

Grade: C+

A fun and entertaining action flick that we all needed for this year! Despite the flaws in story, acting, and special effects, the rest of the film holds up as a great homage to previous great action films.
