The Trailer for Won’t You Be My Neighbor? Delivers All The Feels
Won’t You Be My Neighbor? premiered at Sundance earlier this year and to my complete and total surprise, Morgan Neville’s documentary turned out to not only be my favorite film from Sundance but of 2018 so far. The Mister Rogers documentary highlights the life of Fred Rogers and what he stood and fought for. Rogers was a man that was very much a rebel despite his squeaky clean on-air persona. What Fred Rogers stood for is something that I greatly admire. He appreciated those who were different and felt like television should be used as a medium for educating audiences rather than selling products.
Morgan Neville brings to life a side of Mister Rogers that so few knew about and as a result has created a film that is not only eye-opening and thought-provoking but chock full of emotion. I remember sitting at Sundance as the end credits started to roll and everyone including myself was in tears. Even if you don’t consider yourself a fan of Mister Rogers Neighborhood, I still think this incredible documentary will not only inspire but showcase what standing up for what you believe in could do to impact the lives of those around you. Fred Rogers dedicated his entire career to teaching the youth of America what it meant to care for one another and appreciate those around you. He wasn’t afraid to embrace serious subject matters such a death and divorce because he understood that those things were just part of life and children needed to be educated on those topics. I cannot recommend this film enough and think it is one of the most endearing documentaries that I have ever seen.
