Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets: NYCC Images
At New York Comic Con, these special images were released for the upcoming film Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. The film is a huge passion project for director and writer Luc Besson. Earlier this year at San Diego Comic-Con, Besson hosted a panel that gave the first inside looks into the film and a few clips as well. He discussed his love of the French comics Valérian and Laureline, on which the films are based. The comics were written by Pierre Christin and illustrated by Jean-Claude Mézières. Based on the love and admiration that Besson has for the series, I think this is going to be an incredibly well-made film. Luc Besson is known for directing The Fifth Element and Lucy.
The film stars Dan DeHaan (The Amazing Spiderman 2 and The Place Beyond the Pines) as the male lead character, Valérian and Cara Delevingne (Papertowns and Suicide Squad) as Laureline. The film also stars John Goodman, Ethan Hawke, Rhianna, and Clive Owen. Valerian and Laureline are special operatives for the government of the human territories. They are in charge of maintaining order and balance throughout the universe. Valerian has an attraction to Laureline, but she doesn’t return the feelings. They embark on a mission to Alpha, a huge metropolis where unknown forces at work to tear apart the metropolis apart.
The film will be released on July 21st, 2017.
