Going into X-Men: Days of Future Past many fans were expecting a film overcrowded with too many characters and too many plotlines, for the reason that Past included both the cast of the new X-Men movies and the cast of the old ones as well. What many fans got was one of the best films of the year featuring breathtaking action and superb performances from all actors in the cast.
Before the film’s release, director Bryan Singer announced that he was forced to cut out a large chunk of footage from the film, including an entire plotline involving the character Rogue, played by Anna Paquin.
Today FOX’s EVP of Marketing Communications, James Finn, has announced that they will be releasing an extended cut of the film into theaters in 2015. While he did not make it clear about which scenes cut out from the original film we would be seeing in this extended cut, we can assume much of it will be focused on Rogue. It has been said that in Rogue’s scenes we get to see her absorb the powers of Kitty Pryde, played by Ellen Page, after Pryde is injured by Wolverine’s claw when he is traveling back in time.
In another deleted plotline, Iceman, Professor X, and Magneto go on a mission of their own. On this mission, they must rescue Rogue from a batch of Sentinels.
Considering that X-Men: Days of Future Past was an extremely concise, well edited, and fast paced film, it will be interesting to see how the inclusion of extra scenes changes the film’s vibe and pacing.
No official date in 2015 for the extended cut’s release has been announced yet, but it has been confirmed that none of these extra scenes will appear on the digital copy of the film when it is released on September 23 or the Blu-ray when that is release on October 14.
