Mark Krawczyk: The Accountant (7.5/10)

As an action movie, it is uneven, but I enjoyed their serious approach to the subject of autism. Ben Affleck puts in a great performance, while I felt Anna Kendrick was underutilized. They really could have cast anyone in that role. I did see the big reveal coming from a mile away. It really could have trimmed up too. On the whole, I did enjoy the main story, and I could see them making a sequel, should the box office gods see fit. It is not a straight up action film which may disappoint some, but it is still a fun time at the movies and worth the price of an early show at least. I just think it could have even been better had it stuck with a tone rather than jump around like it does

Nick Casaletto: The Accountant (6.5/10)

A worthy effort from director Gavin O’Connor and an exceptional performance from Ben Affleck make The Accountant almost a cut above forgettable. The intentions of telling a mass audience the story about the life of someone who is living with autism is noble and done with respect. However, what should have been an immersive character piece, turns into a movie that doesn’t quite know what genre it’s trying to be. I do like the slow pacing and development of our main protagonist, and like I said, Affleck knocks it out of the park in this role. However, the amount of time spent on subplots and supporting characters make the audience want to hit a “fast forward” button to the next scene involving Christian Wolf. That being said, The Accountant isn’t a bad film, just one that is struggling with an identity crisis of its own and in result, ends up being mostly forgettable.

Scott Menzel: The Accountant (7.5/10)

The Accountant is a Hollywood film that blurs the lines of genre. It is an action film, mystery, and drama all in one. Ben Affleck delivers another great performance as Christian Wolff. I enjoyed the bold move to make the central character have autism while also making him a bad ass. It is a role with layers and one that we rarely get to see Affleck play. The supporting cast is equally as strong, and their stories work nicely with the central plot. I applaud Gavin O’ Connor for continuing to make films that will challenge audiences and make them think. I love walking out of a theater and hearing people say “that isn’t what I expected” because I feel that is one of the best compliments to any film.

Ashley Menzel: The Accountant (7.5/10)
The Accountant is incredibly enjoyable and tense film but doesn’t fit neatly into a genre of film. The action is great and Ben Affleck gives a really stellar performance. The combination of the genres makes it really difficult to know who the audience is for this film. I really enjoyed the commentary on autism and it had some really great dramatic elements as well. Overall it is a good film with a great Ben Affleck performance, but for some, it may miss the mark for an action packed film they are expecting.
