Nick Casaletto: The Mummy (7/10)

I would still say to check out The Mummy, at a matinee price. Some of the sequences are genuinely terrific and some scenes truly did stand out to me. The action was great and the sound design and mixing were absolutely phenomenal. Trust me, when Tom Cruise gets thrown against the wall, you feel it. The Mummy isn’t a strike out by any means; it’s more like a pop-foul that has the opportunity to learn to make this new universe a more entertaining and fun ride.

Mark Krawczyk: The Mummy (7/10)

Not sure why the hate for this film. Sure it is a setup film but I found it Entertaining. There some memorable action scenes in the movie, Tom Cruise gets some good zingers and Russel Crowe made me want to see so much more of his character. The main story is a bit basic but it is a spectacle popcorn film and I think it succeeds at that. Some of the special effects in here were amazing and I love the world they built for the Dark Universe to play in. There are some moments where it felt rushed, especially in the ending. It does shift from being an adventure comedy, to horror, to action a bit abruptly but I didn’t mind, some people may. To get right down to it I had fun. It is nothing earth shattering or mind blowing but not every film has to be. I say bring on more Dark Universe films.

Tony Estrada: The Mummy (6/10)

Not a bad way to start off the Dark Universe but it also could have been a lot better. Tom Cruise does a really good job acting as this supposedly unlikable character as well as delivering some really exciting action sequences and Russell Crowe shines for the screentime that he does have. The feature does really suffer when it comes to its tone because it tries to balance being a monster/horror movie, a comedy movie, and an action movie and it never really blends those genres well. There is so much focus on setting up the dark universe for these iconic monsters that the feature fails to be its own thing. The Mummy does have plenty to offer as far as entertainment value goes and I appreciate what the filmmakers were trying to accomplish but I just wish it focused more on being a stand-alone story with minimal set-up scenes.

Average We Live Film Gradebook Score for The Mummy: 6.7/10
