Colin Farrell has reportedly joined the cast of the upcoming Harry Potter spinoff film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Farrell will be playing a wizard named Graves, who comes across the film’s protagonist, Newt Scamander, while in New York.

The film is an adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s book of the same name, which takes place 70 years before the events of Harry Potter.

Oscar-winning actor Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything) will star as Scamander in the film, while Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice), Ezra Miller (Trainwreck), Dan Fogler (Balls of Fury) and Alison Sudol (Transparent) are also on board the project.

Director of the final four Harry Potter films, David Yates, has signed on to helm Fantastic Beasts as well; Rowling has penned the script for the film.

Currently, Farrell plays the role of Ray Velcoro on the second season of True Detective and has earned positive reviews. In fact, the actor has been receiving praise for his performances in numerous projects for quite some time now. From Phone Booth to Saving Mr. Banks, Farrell has proven that he’s a consistently good actor.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is slated for a November 18, 2016 release.
