Oscar winner Forest Whitaker is in talks to join the cast of two upcoming films: Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One and the remake of The Crow.
In Rogue One, Whitaker will be starring alongside a talented group of actors, which includes Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything), Ben Mendelsohn (The Place Beyond the Pines), Riz Ahmed (Nightcrawler) and Diego Luna (Elysium).
The film, which is set to be directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla), will focus on a band of Rebels who attempt to steal the plans for the Death Star. The story was conceived by John Knoll and Gary Whitta, with Chris Weitz set to pen the screenplay.
The Crow, on the other hand, is a remake of the 1994 cult classic of the same name, which starred Brandon Lee and Michael Wincott. In the upcoming remake, actor Jack Huston will play Lee’s role of Eric Draven, while Andrea Riseborough will play Wincott’s role of Top Dollar. Corin Hardy will helm the project.
Whitaker’s exact roles in these films are unknown at the time.
Rogue One is scheduled to be released on December 16, 2016; The Crow has not received a specific release date yet, but will most likely hit theaters in 2016 as well.
Whitaker took home an Academy Award for his performance in The Last King of Scotland in 2005, and has since appeared in such films as The Great Debators, Vantage Point, Where the Wild Things Are, Repo Men, Lee Daniels’ The Butler, The Last Stand and Out of the Furnace.
This year, Whitaker also popped up in the Liam Neeson-led action film Taken 3, where he played an LAPD detective. He will next be seen sharing the screen with Jake Gyllenhaal in Antoine Fuqua’s Southpaw.
2016 is shaping up to be a busy year for the actor, as he has both Story of Your Life and A Fall From Grace lined up for that year as well.
