Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War has just added another Avenger to its cast, with Jeremy Renner set to reprise his role as Clint “Hawkeye” Barton.
A couple months ago, Renner had hinted at the fact that his character may appear in the film, but a recent report from The Hollywood Reporter confirms his involvement.
Renner will be joining a cast that already includes Chris Evans as Captain America, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Anthony Mackie as Falcon, Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier and Frank Grillo as Crossbones.
Newcomers to the Marvel Cinematic Universe who will appear in the film include Daniel Bruhl as Baron Zemo and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther. Reports say that Marvel is planning to debut the new version of Spider-Man in Civil War as well.
Outside of The Avengers, the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron and a brief cameo in Thor, Hawkeye hasn’t appeared in any other MCU films, which makes his appearance in Civil War all the more interesting. Hopefully, we’ll learn a bit more about the character.
Anthony and Joe Russo, who also directed last year’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, will be returning to the series for Civil War. The film will begin shooting this spring.
The majority of the report from THR is actually about how Renner will star opposite Amy Adams in Denis Villeneuve’s newest film Story of Your Life.
Villeneuve is the director behind such critically acclaimed films as Prisoners and Enemy, and was also recently announced to be helming Blade Runner 2, starring Harrison Ford.
Glen Basner, David Linde, Shawn Levy and Dan Levine will all be producing the project, with Eric Heisserer writing the script. The film is based on author Ted Chiang’s short story of the same name, written in 1998.
Story of Your Life is expected to hit theaters sometime during 2016, while Captain America: Civil War will be released on May 6, 2016.
