The film festival season is kicking off with Sundance in less than a week, but shortly after Sundance comes another really huge festival that takes place in Austin, TX. For those who have been living under a rock for the past few years, SXSW is one of the biggest festivals in the country. It not only features film, but also features interactive as well as music. WeLiveFilm’s own Scott Menzel has covered the festival in the past so we are excited about seeing what is in store for this new year. This year the festival promises to be bigger and better than ever before. SXSW is the one festival that continues to grow each and every year.
Kicking off the festival with a bang is the Lionsgate film: The Cabin in the Woods. This film has been generating some buzz on the web because of Joss Whedon, who produced and co-wrote the film. The movie is directed by Drew Goddard, who is best know for writing several episodes of the hit television series Lost. The film follows your typical college kids into the woods, but it isn’t long before the film takes a different turn than the cliched plot that you would feel a horror film will go. The film has a pretty solid cast as well including Thor’s Chris Hemsworth, Richard Jenkins, Kristen Connolly, and Anna Hutchison, just to name a few. The movie will host its world premiere at the festival and will open in theaters nationwide on April 13, 2012. You can get a sneak peak at the movie by checking out the trailer below:
