Ashley Menzel: Trolls (7.5/10)
Without a doubt, Trolls will certainly appeal to children and will keep their attention and excitement. The runtime of 1 hour and 32 minutes really fits perfectly for the attention span of a lot of kids. The colors and design of the Trolls are eye-catching and unique to each Troll. The jokes are pretty good, while some will hit better with adults than kids. Overall, a fun film that will have you singing and dancing your way out of the theater. Who doesn’t love a great Earth, Wind, and Fire song?
Tony Estrada: Trolls (5.5/10)
Trolls is a cute movie with colorful animation, fun musical numbers, and some fun characters but it lacks the magic that most of the DreamWorks animated movies have. This is a harmless movie that should have been G-rated but for some reason gets a PG rating from the MPAA. The voice cast sounds like they are having fun at least and I respect the message that this movie delivers about finding your own happiness. Unfortunately what brings down Trolls from being a memorable movie is that the story becomes way too predictable, most of the humor falls flat for me, and the whole romance story between the two bergens didn’t do anything for me. Trolls isn’t a good or bad animated movie but it is unfortunately an animated movie that left me feeling…. eh.
Zachary Marsh: Trolls (8/10)
I’m not going to pretend that Trolls is a perfect movie, because it really isn’t. The story is generic, some jokes don’t hit as hard as others, there are some inconsistencies in the film’s logic itself, it drags a little bit in the middle, and the ending feels a bit abrupt. Having said that, I can’t deny how much fun and joy I got from watching this. The lack of sheer intelligence is made up by the strong voice cast, a fun/energetic soundtrack, some very funny moments, and arguably the most vibrant, colorful, and beautiful animation I’ve seen in a movie all year. This isn’t up on the levels of Kung Fu Panda or How To Train Your Dragon, but DreamWorks’ latest effort is a sweet-as-pie animated film that will surely appeal to children and adults
