The Hollywood Critics Association (HCA) today announced their nominees for the 5th Annual HCA Awards. The group which comprises critics around the US, have nominated Dune for ten nominations, including Best Picture. Kenneth Branagh’s Belfast, and Sian Heder’s CODA each earned nine nominations each.
Scott Menzel, founder of HCA and editor-in-chief of We Live Entertainment, said, “2021 was the year that the world returned to cinemas, and we are absolutely delighted to be highlighting such a wide variety of films. We are looking forward to celebrating a remarkable year in cinema at our awards ceremony on January 8, 2022. While we will have a few more announcements in the weeks leading up to our ceremony, I think I speak on behalf of all the members when I say that we are the most excited about being back together in person celebrating our love of all things film.”
HCA leadership made the decision to combine the two directing (female and male) into one category this year with ten nominees, honoring the breadth of directorial talent and recognizing that direction is not a gendered job. The rest of the categories continue from previous years.
The 5th Annual HCA Awards will take place in Los Angeles and streamed on YouTube on Saturday, January 8, 2022.
