Despite being hesitant to appear in the film, Bill Murray will be making a cameo in Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters.
After being spotted on the set of the film in Boston, Massachusetts, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed his involvement with the project. This makes Murray the second cast member from the original Ghostbusters film to pop up in the upcoming reboot, as Dan Aykroyd is set to show up as well.
Murray played the role of Dr. Peter Venkman in 1984’s Ghostbusters and 1989’s Ghostbusters II, and at this time it’s unclear if he’ll be reprising that role or playing a different one.
This development may come as a bit of a surprise to Ghostbusters fans, especially because the actor has stated for quite some time that he does not plan on returning to the franchise. In fact, during a guest spot on Late Show with David Letterman, when asked about potentially doing a third Ghostbusters film, the actor said, “This is my nightmare.”
The film’s cast includes Melissa McCarthy, who worked with Murray on last year’s St. Vincent, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon, Neil Casey, Chris Hemsworth, Andy Garcia, Michael K. Williams, Matt Walsh and Cecily Strong.
Expect to see Ghostbusters in theaters on July 15, 2016.
