Laika’s Kubo and the Two Strings Gets a Stunning New Trailer
Laika, the studio behind such stop-motion animated films as Coraline, ParaNorman and The Boxtrolls, has just unveiled the latest trailer for their upcoming film Kubo and the Two Strings. The fun, exciting and intense trailer is set to an instrumental cover of The Beatles’ “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.”
The film not only features an amazing voice cast, which includes Matthew McConaughey (Interstellar), Charlize Theron (Mad Max: Fury Road), Rooney Mara (Carol), Ralph Fiennes (The Grand Budapest Hotel), George Takei (Star Trek) and Art Parkinson (Game of Thrones), but, judging by the trailer, it also has stunning visuals that are sure to wow audience members.
In general, Laika’s visual style sets it apart from most other animation studios, as their films usually take on a somewhat dark and scary look/feel. While Laika obviously does target younger moviegoers with their films, their projects are undeniably much more adult than your average Pixar or DreamWorks offering.
Coraline kicked things off for Laika in 2009 and ended up raking in close to $125 million on a $60 million budget. On the same budget, ParaNorman brought in a serviceable $107 million, and The Boxtrolls earned $109 million. While none of the films did huge business at the box office, all were met with extremely warm reviews from critics and are loved by many to this day.
Kubo and the Two Strings is set to hit theaters on August 19, 2016.
