As many fans have already guessed, the title of the next Planet of the Apes prequel film will most likely be War of the Planet of the Apes.
The film will be the third installment in the Planet of the Apes prequel series, following 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes and 2014’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Currently, the film is slated to be released on July 14, 2017.
Although the title hasn’t been confirmed, it certainly makes sense, considering how at the end of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (spoilers) Caesar stands before his ape army, ready for the war that is about to break out when the human military reinforcements arrive. In the closing lines of the film, Caesar even says, “War has… already begun. Ape started war. And human… human will not forgive.”
Director of Dawn, Matt Reeves, is set to helm and write the next entry into the series as well. Reeves’ work on Dawn earned the film a massive amount of praise from both fans and critics. On top of that, the film was a financial success at the box office, grossing over $700 million worldwide on a $170 million budget.
