Marvel’s upcoming Doctor Strange already boasts a stellar cast, which includes Benedict Cumberbatch as the title character, Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo, but according to a new report from Variety, Hannibal actor Mads Mikkelsen is in talks to join as well.
Mikkelsen will reportedly play an antagonist in the film, although his exact role is still unknown. Some have speculated that the actor may be taking up the role of Dormammu, otherwise known as The Dread One; Dormammu is a powerful villain who practices dark magic in the comics.
During his three seasons as Dr. Hannibal Lecter on NBC’s Hannibal, Mikkelsen earned extremely positive reviews for his portrayal of the serial killer. On top of that, Mikkelsen has also starred in such films as Casino Royale, Valhalla Rising, The Hunt, The Three Musketeers and Clash of the Titans. In fact, only a couple weeks ago he was announced to be in the cast of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, meaning that its very possible he’ll be starring in two Disney films in 2016.
Scott Derrickson (Deliver Us from Evil) is set direct the superhero film, while Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) has penned the script.
Doctor Strange is slated to be released on November 4, 2016.
